In schools, there are plenty of rules and regulations. Some help students, teachers, and the educational environment. Others, not so much. Join hosts Tyler Simpson and Leo Hilton as they discuss the latter of these two situations, when policy hinders education instead of helping students to learn. Or other words, the failure of school policy.
Joined by fellow Blunt member Gaby Ferrell as she discusses her experiences with school bullying policies in her piece entitled: “Snitches get Stitches,” and Blunt member Christian Yombe in his commentary regarding “reasonable suspicion” policies in schools.
01 Failure of School Policy
01 Drug Use and Drinking
Drinking and drug abuse are commonly assumed aspects of teen culture, but how prevalent are they? Hosts Isaac High and Lucy Tabb take on this difficult topic with guest Dave C., a member of Al-Anon –a support network similar to Alcoholics Anonymous for the families and friends of alcoholics. And with the newly approved legislation in Portland, Maine on the legalization of small ammounts of marijuana, Isaac and Lucy discuss the impact this has on local youth with Anthony Zeni, one of the organizers of this month’s marijuana legalization campaign in Portland, and Dave Marshall, a city council member involved in the marijuana legalization efforts.
01 Dress Code
Join hosts Gaby Ferrell and Izzy Terracciano discuss dress codes–why they exist, how they’re enforced, and what they accomplish– and how the path to student dress code leads to slut-shaming, victim-blaming, and rape culture. With guests Kim Bennett, an assistant principal at South Portland High School and dress code enforcer, along with local high school students. And, a speacial commentary from reporter Milena Germon.
