Leftism: December 30, 2013

This week on Blunt Youth Radio, we explored leftism and labor politics, internationally and in America, both contemporary and through history.

We spoke with Nathan Goodman of the Center for a Stateless Society, Drew Joy of Southern Maine Workers’ Center and Jason Remes, assistant professor at SUNY Empire State College and writer on topics involving labor politics and leftism.

Hunting & Fishing: December 16th, 2013

This week on Blunt we are talking about hunting and fishing laws, the opposition to hunting, and a program called Hunters For The Hungry.

We’ll be talking with David Trahan from Sportsman’s Alliance of Maine, Jason Hall from Hunters for the Hungry, Lucy Van Hook from Maine Fishermen’s Association, and John Ford a former Maine warden.

Since 1994 — nearly 20 years — Blunt Youth Radio has provided direct media access for the youth of Southern Maine. Every week, high school age youth from the Portland area, both free and incarcerated, work together to create a live show from scratch, taking on topics that they care about, from their own perspectives. At Blunt, young people handle all aspects of show production: reporting, on-air hosting, selecting topics, locating guests, studio production, and broadcast engineering. Blunt also has an on-going outreach project with youth incarcerated by the State of Maine. Our program is the winner of thirteen regional and national broadcasting awards. Work produced by Blunt has aired on NPR, the BBC, Marketplace, and This American Life, among others.

Please consider a donation through our Indiegogo campaign, even the smallest donations help to fund the next era of Blunt Youth Radio.

Sex Ed: December 2nd, 2013

Most of us have gone through it, but what good does sex ed in school really do? Is there anything there that is really new information to kids? And with the advent of the internet and information at our fingertips, what is the place of sex ed in the future?

We’ll be joined by Lauren Grousd from Planned Parenthood of Northern New England and Robin Mandell, Volunteer Executive Director at Scarleteen, a web-based sex ed resource for teens.
